Ideas for Bright and Colorful Christmas Decor – Holiday Home Tour

Oh, the joy of having your home decorated for Christmas. The lights, the garland, the tinsel. The trees decorated in sparkling ornaments and cherished heirlooms. Our home is 95% decorated and I can’t wait to share my ideas for bright and colorful Christmas decor. It’s a Christmas holiday home tour you’ll enjoy.

Decorating our home for the holidays is not a job for the faint of heart. It takes us at least 10 days.

That’s not to say that I’ve spent every day, all day decorating the house. I’ve gone to two Christmas lunches, a neighborhood Christmas party, one doctor’s appointment, walked Nola on 6 mornings, written three blog posts and two newsletters, listened to one webinar, and attended two mastermind group meetings on zoom.

Oh, and slept, made dinner, and went out one night with Sweet Shark. Like everyone else, I have had a very busy, mostly good, week.

I love decorating our home for Christmas. It makes me happy. But, truth be told, it also stresses me out. For several years, we paid a decorator to put up and fluff the garland and the bows and ribbons. It became too expensive so I took back the job.

Do you wish you could blink, wave a magic wand and your home would instantly look like the winter wonderland you envision? You work so hard to make your home beautiful and you wish the whole world could see it.

So today is the day to show off our bright and colorful Christmas decorations. The timing could be more perfect. It’s time for a Merry and Bright Home Tour.

I’m joining several other talented bloggers who also love decorating their homes and sharing ideas with you. Are you coming over from Rosemary – My Home and Travel? Then welcome to my home for Christmas.

Let’s begin this fun holiday home tour.

Welcome to our Colorful Christmas Home

Each room in our home is decorated in a different color – or combination of colors. This is what makes it such a colorful Christmas color scheme. Everything flows together together nicely.

Christmas Master Bedroom

Previously, I shared our cozy Christmas master bedroom and bath (check out the complete decorations). It’s a colorful mix of red and white and tartan plaid in the bedroom. Nola is a cute bonus.

A red and white Christmas tree was the inspiration for the whole color scheme.

Blue Bathroom

In the bathroom, I used blue as the central color. It’s a soft, relaxing color choice.

For today’s Christmas home tour, I’m sharing the living spaces of our home.

  • entry
  • dining room
  • Sweet Shark’s bar
  • living room and sitting room

What you’ll notice is that each room has a different color scheme. I love color and each room reflects either my favorite colors (pink or blue) or a traditional mix of reds and greens (Sweet Shark’s).

You may notice that the kitchen isn’t on the list. You just can’t have everything! In all honesty, it’s just not finished. I’ll add it in a few days.

Our Green Entry

Our entry this year was inspired by the green ribbon Christmas trees that I made several weeks ago with this green velvet wired ribbon. I’ve never used an all-green color scheme, but I really like it.

A tartan blanket in green, red, and white provides the base.

Scatttered ornaments in green, red, and gold emphasis the color palette.

We have had these beautiful torcheries since we built our first home together. I usually only use them in the fall, but I left them up to bring out the gold accent.

I added a wreath using a grapevine base and more green velvet ribbon and the deer design ribbon. Then I hung some gold balls using skinny green ribbon.

Next to the comode, I hung six Christmas tree printables that I bought on Etsy. The frames are recycled ones I’ve collected over years.

Our Pretty Pink Dining Room

The color scheme for our dining room is pink – one of my favorite colors.

We switched to four tabletop Christmas trees a couple of years ago. Here are last year’s trees.

Pink Tabletop Christmas Tree

Last year for the first time I designed a pink Christmas tree. I loved it and decided to repeat it this year.

The tree sits in the bay window on a flea market bar cart I found several years ago. I covered the glass top with a bright pink shawl.

All the tabletop trees have matching colored bow toppers. I love this pink wired ribbon for this tree.

The ornaments are mostly vintage or vintage look-alikes that I’ve bought in several places the past few years.

This is the newest ornament – a pink doughnut with sprinkles.

Here is the tree at night. It came with plug in lights, but I added a couple of strands on battery-opperated lights on timers – the best Christmas present ever.

Dining Room Hutch

I decorated our vassielier first with a green garland and pink bows.

I used a combination of the same wired pink ribbon as on the tree topper and sheer pink ribbon. (There are five shades of pink in each box and it comes in multiple colors.)

The shelves are festooned (fancy word) with several of our crystal rose bowls, our Lenox Eternal china, and Santas.

I also used pink bottle brush trees and the felt Christmas trees I made a couple of years ago.

I filled the rose bowls with silver gold – anything I could find to had color and shine.

The gold reindeer have been with us for 25 years. I can’t the number of different bows they have worn.

And, yes, both of them have lost one ear.

This is our newest Santa. We found him in New Orleans last year and I couldn’t resist him.

The small wreaths with pink bows on each side of the vassielier are making a re-appearance from last year. They add a nice punch of reflection and light at night.

I love our vassielier with the pink bows, ribbons, bottle brush and felt ball trees, and Santas.

Colorful Christmas Dining Table in Pink

I carried over the pink theme on the dining room table. The centerpiece began with the snowflake runner (It comes in several different lengths and is on sale right now.) and the brass tray. They never go out of style or practicality.

Here’s a previous Christmas tablescape where I used the snowflake runner.

I love using my collection of crystal candlesticks in difference styles and sizes. I used remote-controlled candle tapers in cream and pink. They are so much safer than the real thing. (Once the air conditioner came on during a dinner party and blew wax all over the table.)

I added faux snow, a trio of pink votives, and several ball ornaments.

The pink yarn Christmas trees I made a couple of years also gave color, height, and texture to the centerpiece. More shear pink ribbon tied to the handles in bows adds more to the colorful Christmas

For the final tweaking, I added some of my crystal bells for more colorful Christmas decor.

You’ll also notice the Christmas Holiday Plates, pink napkins, and gold plastic forks. Those are for the Annual Church Book Club Christmas gathering I hosted. Everyone brings a dish, so so just had to have our home decorated for the holidays.

Here is what the table looked like when everyone brought their sweet contribution to the gathering.

The final touch were the preserved box wood wreaths (These are on super sale from what I paid!) tied with pink D.Stevens ribbon (This is a great price on Etsy for this ribbon – much less than I’ve paid in retail stores.) to two chairs.

Sweet Shark’s Traditional Colors in the Bar

Across the entry from the dining room is the staircase and Sweet Shark’s bar.

The staircase is adorned in green garland. We used a new approach for the first time ever. We put the garland on the stair steps instead of the bannister.

Our biggest (and the first) Santa stands guards next to Sweet Shark’s multicolored bar tree. This tree is full of ornaments that we have collected from our travels around the states and around the world.

Usually this tree sits on a small round table. I had purchased a large metal planter last spring. I thought it would be a nice chance to place the tree on it. I stuffed our red and gold satin tree skirt around it.

Our vintage red truck, another felt Christmas tree and moose fill out this colorful vignette.

Next to the tree is our curio cabinet filled with our Christmas crystal and cool Christmas figurines and mini-colored bottle brush trees.

As usual, on the top of the cabinet is five of our Mark Robert’s elves.

As usual, garland and more elves are on the top of Sweet Shark’s bar. We now have sixteen elves and are runnin gout of room to put them.

On the staircase bannisters, I added two big bows made with a combination of bits of different ribbon and greenery.

Guess who decided to come down the stairs and see what was happening?

As you leave the entry and walk into the living room, you first pass our glass candle and metal candle stand. It also gets some greenery wrapped around it with a felt Santa hanging on.

One the other side of the open hallway, you’ll find an antique cabinet with a Christmas vignette on top. It sits in front of a painting that was in my parents’ living room for as long as I can remember. I love the French city scene.

One of our Santas and a barely flocked tree picks up the colors of the painting.

Colorful Christmas Mantel

Now you are in our living room. The first thing. you see is our mantel. I used bright colors, but a more simple style than in years past.

The first thing you may notice is the bright metallic painted Christmas trees I made last year. Then they were on the coffee table, but I wanted to move them to the mantel this year.

Instead of a big, thick garland, I twisted two skinny garland together.

The next (or maybe it was the first) thing you see is the large flocked wreath embellished with white pampas grass. It came with remote-control lights and a timer – which is a must for our tall mantel and fireplace surround.

Thanks to Seasonal LLC, which reached out to me. I picked out this wreath from their beautiful collection for the style, the size, and the lights.

I added a bow of pink, blue, green, and silver to the wreath to reflect the colors in the living room and mantel.

I bought the multicolored ornaments last year at my favorite antique mall. The owner of the booth just happens to be a neighbor.

Next, I added bows of different colors (pink ribbon, blue ribbon, silver mesh ribbon, and green mesh ribbon) and textures, again to pull together the different colors in the living room.

Can you see the fairy lights? Most of our Christmas lights are battery-operated with timers.

The room is also beautiful at night with the fairy lights on.

Bright and Colorful Christmas Decor – Coffee Table

The coffee table ties in with the color scheme of the mantel.

I used the gold leaf tray that I made as the base for this vignette. I filled it with more faux snow. The first think I added were our little collection of three crystal Waterford Christmas trees and three Baccarat Santas skate boarding.

The metallic balls I painted last year pick up the colors on the mantel. It definitely has a colorful Christmas vibe.

The blue ribbons are also D. Stevens. I love how easy it is to curl them and this ribbon lasts forever.

I used a large crystal bowl to hold blue and silver balls. It sits on a silver tray surrounded by faux snow and a few greenery stems.

Here’s another view of the coffee table

The last thing to show you is our new white 4 1/2 foot faux Christmas tree adorned with a variety of blue ornaments. It sits on the accent table between our two Bergere chairs in the sitting room. It’s a lovely focal point at night.

Carol, love all the pink! My grandson nixed my 2nd tree that I planned to be pink and blues. ‘Grandma, it has to be the rainbow lights!’ And so it is. I hope to finish the middle room with that tree today. We simplified a lot this year. Enjoy your home during this holiday season.
