Fresh and Colorful Spring Home Decor

If you walk into our home, I want you to feel that spring has arrived. How to evoke that feeling for friends and family? Create fresh and colorful spring home decor that sets a happy and cheerful mood.

For any season, I start at the front door adding seasonal decor, then continue to the entry and our living room.

For spring, that means adding bright or pastel spring colors to our accessories. It means flowers, mossy greens, and maybe an Easter bunny or two.

Come on this spring home decor tour with me. I guarantee you will feel that spring has sprung.

I’m not the only one sharing spring decor today. It’s a spring home decor tour featuring several delightful homes from some of my talented blogger friends. Hosted by my friend Cindy of County Road 407, you will find a springy collection of spring decorating ideas to enjoy, imitate, and use in your own home.

I am sharing how I decorated our entry and living room for spring and many of the handmade accessories I included in my spring stying. Use them as inspiration and craft away in your own style.

If you are joining me from Cindy of DIY Beautify, I know you enjoyed Cindy’s blooms and bunnies.

My Decorating Plan

First, I want to reuse as many previously made or purchased accessories for my styling as possible. I do love to shop (and I’ll share with you when possible those items), but let’s face it: we only have so much space for decor storage and dollars to spend.

I’m happy to say that I only bought two new items (two coffee table books) for styling our spaces – and those are items I will enjoy and use for many years.

Second, I gather all my spring and several Easter accessories so I have plenty to choose from. I started slowly decorating for spring a couple of weeks ago. I do mean slowly, but with spring officially here, I completed our main living spaces last week. (Nothing like a party or a home tour with other bloggers to get your home in order.)

Now, that my spring decorating is complete, we can enjoy the fresh vibe, the colors, and the happy feeling it creates.

Let’s start in our entry.

Styling the Spring Entry

I believe that your entry should always be welcoming with seasonal or everyday decor. Even if you never use your front door to enter your home, you and your guests will feel better with an entry that is neat and thoughtfully styled.

Our entry decor began with this colorful wreath of flowers and fabric that I made a couple of years ago. It’s one of my favorite DIY wreaths ever. (Wait, all my wreaths are DIY!)

What else did I add to my spring home decor entry?

Of course, I love the simple steps to make the wreath, but what I love most is the colorful faux flowers and patterned fabric. Its happy and colorful style sets the tone for my entire spring decor.

Next, I added a recently repainted lamp, one of a pair. (I’ll share the before and after DIY project soon.) At first, I added both lamps to provide “bookends” for the other decorations. I thought two were one too many. I love the soft light that accent lamps create at night in the entry.

The now French Blue lamp with gold accents is on one side of the entry chest. I love this color and it’s quite the transformation.

A tall white wood rabbit with a bow is on the other side. The height balances the blue lamp.

In the center of the entry chest, I used a round woven tray to hold several decorative items. I used cupcake stands to raise the items for more height.

This bright entry should let know you are in the space for spring decor.

I also have to mention the new set of chinoiserie ginger jar prints to the right of our entry chest and mirror. The gorgeous downloadable prints are from Etsy. I had them printed at CVS. The paper and printing are so much better than I can do at home.

Entry Hallway

We have a somewhat long hallway leading from the entry to our living room. I have two pieces of furniture that provide both storage and room for decorative accessories.

First, is our antique French cabinet. The shelf holds family photos year-round, but the top is the perfect spot for accessories.

French cabinet with green glass and books

For my simple spring vignette, I started with a stack of small books with green as the dominant cover color. I love using books as decorative elements.

Next, I added three green glass pieces found at either a flea market or an estate sale.

As you probably already guessed, pink and blue are my dominant colors, but I like to bring in pops of green in springtime. I like the different shades of green and the different shapes of the glass. Both have more interest than if they were the same.

Of course, I love the painting of a French street scene that belonged to my parents and hung in their living room.

The second piece of furniture is the $20 cabinet from an estate sale that I repainted and stenciled several years ago. It provides storage for dishes and serving pieces. But its best purpose is the pop of blue and the interesting design on the doors and the top.

Above it is our Tarkey signed lithograph and is my favorite piece of art. I love the relaxed gathering of ladies in bright colors.

The cabinet is always a place to decorate for holidays. It stays the same throughout the year, but I change it up for the seasons. It always has some books and a vase which I’ll change out for seasonal color or pattern. Then addition of a couple of a white wood bunny and a couple of decoupaged eggs is so simple.

Spring Decor in the Living Room

As you enter our living room, you see bright Easter colors.

living room decorated in spring

There are three areas in the living room that are the most impactful to decorate at any time of the year. These focal points give you the most bang for your decorating buck:

  • the mantel
  • the coffee table
  • the bookcase

The Mantel

Our mantel and fireplace surround are white and very tall. Which can make for a challenge. My goal is always to infuse the space with lots of color to contrast with the white background.

Our beautiful abstract art is full of color so that stays.

For this year’s spring and Easter mantel, I used a combination of chinoiserie blue, bright pinks, and a pop of green.

In the center, a pink vase the color of cotton candy is the foundation for a tree made with white birch branches and decorated with the air-dry clay Easter eggs I made. The green bunnies with fabric bows match the fabric and flower wreath in the entry.

Next are the bright hot pink painted vases I made last year and chinoiserie vases filled with faux pink tulips.

Every thing compliments each other and the painting with bright color.

Spring Coffee Table

Our coffee table is rectangle and glass and metallic brass. I love the bottom shelf to display and store coffee table books.

For this spring, I started with a woven basket – always start with a basket or tray. Here’s what I added:

  • a stack of books in pinks and greens
  • a green and blue thrift store containers filled with faux greenery.
  • another tall pink-painted liqueur bottle filled with pink tulips. I repeated the three tulips from the entry vignette.
  • the candle I embellished with pink peony rub-on transfers

On the other side of the coffee table, I stacked coffee table books in pink and blue covers. Coffee table books act as decorative accessories in addition to their beautiful photography.

In case you are interested, here are these beautiful books – inside and out.

I found the blue bunnies in one of our Easter bins with the tags still on them. I guess I bought them last year and didn’t use them. I definitely wanted to use them now.

The bigger bunny got a bright pink bow.

I coffee table reflects the color on the mantel.

This isn’t the coffee table, but I added a pretty pink throw and pink and blue patterned pillows to the sofa. I made the blue pillow using fabric I ordered from Ballard Designs.

The Spring Bookcase

Since we bought our bookcases at Ballard Design last summer, I have loved styling them for the seasons and the holidays. This is its first spring, so it was extra fun.

I didn’t add Easter decor here, but there are a few bunnies. I love my chinoiserie bunnies.

white bookcase decorated for spring

I primarily used my blue-white chinioserie decor in my spring decor on the bookcase.

On one bookshelf, I focused on pink decor. I bought these books with pink covers on Etsy.

Here I used a rub-on transfer and created a “faux”gold frame. I also used my DIY chinoiserie restyled vase.

Don’t let a white table keep you from making a colorful table that matches our spring style. I repainted this table with blue legs. I added a few pink books and a pink candle that was a gift.

On our side tables, I added chinoiserie vases, eggs, and candles, including the decoupage coasters that I made.

I love how all my spring decor turned out, from the entry to the hallway to the living room. I hope that you found some ideas to inspire you.
