Casual Navy and Copper Fall Tablescape

I have fallen in love with blue. Deep, rich blue. I’ve chosen a casual navy and copper fall tablescape as my theme for this fall. It may be an unusual combination, but I think it works.

It’s amazing how well blue in all its pretty shades works so well in every season. Even fall. That’s why I created a navy and copper fall tablescape.

Copper is the perfect fall metallic. With its natural warmth, it fits the fall shades of rust, burnt orange, bronze, and goldy yellows. You will find that it pairs with navy in a tablescape ~ or any home decor very well.

Combining navy and copper came to me when I was just starting to decorate our home for fall.  This casual navy and copper fall tablescape is simple but carries a big punch. So let me show you around the table.

If you recently dropped by Bluesky at Home, you might have seen a few of the projects that I completed for this fall tablescape. You could guess from those DIY projects that my decor would be a navy and copper fall tablescape.

The navy started with my fall coffee table, continued with the fall mantel and now the dining room gets the navy treatment with copper added for the metallic pop that I love.

Blue Checked Tablecloth for a Casual Feel

You have heard me say in past tablescapes that I love to use fabric for tablecloths. When I went through all my fabric at the beginning of the summer, I found a fabric I forgot I had – this dark blue ~ we’ll call it navy – fabric that evoked a casual picnic~style tablecloth.

TIP: Organize your fabric into different clear plastic boxes by color.

Since navy would be the theme of my fall tablescape, this checked navy fabric would serve as my tablecloth. That’s where the “casual” of this tablescape comes in. Of course, I first had to iron it.

For this tablescape, I didn’t put any leaves in the table and it would be set for 4.

Adding the Copper Elements

My original plan was to use this 3~tiered copper tray that we have had for over 20 years. It usually holds vegetables on our kitchen island. I did polish it first.

Then I added 4 copper chargers. I bought these when my neighborhood Pier 1 was closing. I’ve never used them so I was excited to bring them out now. They were regularly $14.95 on sale for 25% off.

If you read the post about the 3 DIY projects that I made for this tablescape, you will recognize the copper stemless wine glasses I made and the navy and copper pumpkins.  I decided to use our white everyday china ~ I don’t have any blue dishes and the white plates repeated the white in the check fabric tablecloth.

After I shared those 3 projects, I decided that the pumpkins needed a little more metallic pop. I painted more leaves with Gold Metallic ChalkArt and added one to each pumpkin. I just pushed the leaf under the stem ~ no glue gun necessary.

At this point, I realized that the tiered tray was just too tall as a centerpiece. I really don’t like a centerpiece that impedes the view of guests seeing each other and playing peek~a~boo.

So to Plan B.

Fortunately, we have several copper pots and pans. I pulled out 3 that I thought would work. Of course, they needed to be polished!!

copper pans

I have to confess: I pretty~pleased Sweet Shark to polish the copper pans since “he is so much stronger than I am”!!

The copper pot would be my centerpiece. I put a plastic container inside with a piece of florist foam and filled it with water to soak.

While the florist foam was soaking and Sweet Shark was still polishing, I went through another box of fall decorations and found these copper foil stems ~ I really don’t know what you call them ~ that I bought at Pier 1 several years ago. I remember using them with a turquoise vase in our living room. Yeah, more copper accents for the table.

I bought fresh fall flowers at the grocery store. I had to go with these burnt orange colored mums. It’s really hard to find authentic looking blue fall flowers. I had already used lavender for our late summer tablescape last month.

I do love how this fresh flower centerpiece turned out. The copper pot adds to the casual feel as well as the metallic look.

I couldn’t resist adding the last of the blue faux flowers from my wreath project. I also realized that I needed to find a way to cover the stems of the copper foil “whatchamacallit”.

Fortunately, on my last trip to Joann, I bought a bolt of navy ribbon. It worked fine to just wrap the ribbon around the stem and secure it with double~stick tape.

Finishing Touches

I filled the 2 other copper dishes with real white mini~pumpkins. Small faux metallic pumpkins and pieces on hand filled in around the white pumpkins.

I placed my white linen napkins on the plate and set the navy pumpkins on top. This is a really simple look ~ no napkin rings or place cards this time.

My vision for this table was a very casual lunch with 3 friends. For silverware (this is when I wish I had some copper silverware!), I used my mother~in~law’s mother~of~pearl flatware.

The last piece of this casual navy and copper fall tablescape were the wreaths that I made.

I used double stick tape to mount them to my favorite mirrors from Wayfair. These wreaths do 4 things:

  • They add another casual element
  • They repeat the navy check pattern on the tablecloth
  • They repeat the copper leaves on the pumpkins
  • They bring the eye up. Don’t forget to decorate mirrors!!

Also in my fall decor boxes, I found some copper metallic paper leaves that I made with my Cricut a few years ago. Nothing fancy, I just “randomly” placed them on the table.

And that was the finishing touch for the navy and copper fall tablescape. Casual, easy and colorful.

I must have a thing for copper because this is the second time I’ve used it in a tablescape. The first time I paired it with turquoise. Now I love both the turquoise and navy. Which one do you like better?

I also used blue and copper in this fall patio tablescape.

I hope you will PIN this post to your favorite fall decor and tablescape boards to inspire and share with friends.
