My Red and White Valentine Tablescape
Happy almost February, Happy almost Valentine’s Day and welcome to my red and white Valentine tablescape.
It’s hard to believe that we are now almost in the month of hearts and cupids and flowers and candy. I love them all. One of the best ways to celebrate a holiday is to create a tablescape. I really loved creating this red and white Valentine’s tablescape.
I know this may not be the year for hosting Valentine’s parties, but setting a pretty red and white tablescape is still a great way to add a happy, festive space to your home.
Hopefully, this tablescape will give you ideas for your own ~ now or for next year. You can also scale down this tablescape idea for just a couple of people.
You have probably guessed by the title of my post that I’ve chosen to go all out with a red and white Valentine tablescape ~ and there are lots of hearts included. Hearts are a universal symbol for Valentine’s Day. So let’s celebrate this holiday with lots of them.

The inspiration for this year’s Valentine tablescape was my pom~pom and heart a heart garland. I loved the idea of creating more hearts, especially red ones.
Dining Room Vasselier
The first thing I did was move this pom~pom and heart garland into the dining room. Our vaisselier is the focal point of our dining room so it always gets attention for holidays.
For Valentine’s, I filled the shelves with my vintage white dishes ~ I love how the white pops against the wood. I literally bought the rectangle tray with the cute edging for $2.50 at an estate sale up the street. I walked it home.
If one red heart garland is awesome, then can’t two be even better? I made this heart garland to add to the Valentine’s decor. I’ve become obsessed with pom~poms!
I loved the first heart garland so much that made this one with red yarn and mini~pom~poms.
I think the 2 heart garlands look really cute together. I taped a couple of paper hearts to the trays for another pop of red.
Setting the Red and White Valentine Table
I decided to use a very casual white tablecloth as a backdrop for my Valentine tablescape.
TIP: Be sure to iron your tablecloths!
Next, I added my red placemats. They are made from 12 X 18~inch felt rectangles that I bought at Joann for $2.49 each (with 40% off total purchase coupon.) I used a plate as a pattern to make the corners round.
For my main plate, I used these red and white check plastic plates that I bought last spring in the Dollar Spot at Target. They were packaged as a set of 2 and I bought 3 sets.
These plates will be perfect to reuse for the 4th of July!
To hold the forks, I made these silverware caddies from white felt. Then I stenciled hearts from A Maker’s Studio on them using Gel Ink, which is designed for fabrics of all kinds. I actually painted on the stencils last year but didn’t use them. This year I used red embroidery thread to stitch them up.
I’m using our Buttercup silver.
Now to one of my favorite things about this red and white Valentine tablescape ~ the salad plates. Did I buy them at Target? No. HomeGoods? No. Order online? No. I made them. And you can too.
The plates are from Dollar Tree.
I added the darling design using our new Valentine stencils from A Makers’ Studio and our amazing, wonderful brand spanking new ceramic paints. Here’s the tutorial for making the Valentine plates. The plates are food safe, hand washable, and microwave safe. OMG!!
I made a few different variations.
These are the cutest.
NOTE: If you order the stencils and the ceramic paint (The color is Tally Ho.) RIGHT NOW, you will have them in time to make your own for Valentine’s next week.
For glasses, I embellished my tried and true wine glasses from Dollar Tree with red hearts. For napkins, oh, I just love this ~ I sewed little pom~poms cut from trim onto the corner of each white napkin. I bought a dozen of these napkins at an estate sale several years ago for $10; one of those “best buys” ever.
After Valentine’s Day, I’ll just clip off the pom~poms to reuse the napkins for another occasion. I think the napkins look cute stuffed into the wine glasses.
Red and White Valentine Centerpiece
For my centerpiece, I used a large red plastic bucket that I have had for years. We used it for popcorn and snacks for parties.
I wanted white tulips, but I couldn’t find any, so I used white hydrangeas instead. To fill in the arrangement, I added my faux white tulips. Can you tell that they are faux?
I think it turned out nice. I love the contrast of the bright red bucket against the white tablecloth with the white flowers.
Notice the red and white stripe hearts surrounding the red bucket? Another DIY project for the tablescape that I love. I could have made another garland with them, but I needed something to tie the bucket to the table. The hearts were perfect here.
Other Embellishments for the Red and White Tablescape
Valentine’s is about sweet treats, right?
I have 4 red heart~shape ceramic ramekins that were the perfect little containers for some sweets: M & M’s, hot tamales, sweetheart candies, and cinnamon balls.
On each side of the vaisselier is an extra dining room chair. I placed my red and white checked pom~pom napkins on them for extra color and pattern.
I had some felt hearts leftover from last year that I scattered around the table. You can’t have too many hearts.
And, finally, I cut extra ticking fabric leftover from the heart project into long strips with pinking shears.
These “ties” became bows for the tablecloth at the corners of the table. It’s just a little touch that extends a pattern and color from one element to another.
I’m downright smitten with this red and white Valentine tablescape. It’s bright and happy and festive and fun. It has hearts and candy and flowers, but no cupids. It has pattern and texture and color. It’s sweet and not too fancy.
I’m ready to party!!
Let me know what you think about this tablescape. I really want your feedback.
Be sure to check out the how~to’s for the yarn heart garland, the stripe hearts, the sticker hearts, and the heart silverware caddies. You’ll want to PIN those DIY projects, for sure.
Until then, I hope that you’ll be a sweetheart and share this red and white Valentine tablescape and PIN it for your own reference and so your friends can see it.

Carol, everything is just beautiful! Love how you have made those darling swags with the red hearts and white pom poms! Then to see how you created your table décor with all the different fabric — so pretty! You always have such wonderful ideas to share with us and I thank you from the bottom of my heart! I am definitely going to make some of your swags and also some of the fabric hearts for the table. I have the napkins that I made last year and will use these again. Everyone thought they were so different! They were so pretty with using the two different fabrics and then having the 4 little pom poms on each end of the napkin! I always love having homemade items that you never see in the stores.
You are so crafty and this table feels so cozy. The felt placemats and painted salad plates piqued my interest and I’m looking forward to trying my hand and it. Using red poms on the white napkins worked like a charm. Happy to hop with you again!
Carol, I’m always excited to see your new DIY projects that you included with every tablescape. Those DT stenciled plates are the sweetest thing! Clever girl you! And adding pom poms to napkins, genius!
Carol, your table is full of fun details, and I’m so impressed that you made most of them. My crafting days are behind me, but it sure is fun to see ideas. Red and white is always appropriate for Valentine’s Day. I’m torn between using red and white or pinks and pastels. Sometimes I choose to do both! Happy Valentine’s!!!
Carol, there are certain things that are made for each other and that is red ticking, red and white gingham check and red baste stitched fabric. So perfect together and a beautiful complement to all of your delicate heart decor on the table and around the room. The red pom pom on the napkins are such a fun detail. I am all for a whimsical tablescape and this one speaks volumes. Happy Valentine’s Day.
Good Morning!
Such sweet creative details everywhere! Love the stripes, hearts and checks. Great use of ramekins too. I have quite a collection of ramekins myself, just because they are so cute!
Happy Valentine’s Day!
