How to Style a Blue and White Spring Tablescape

Here we are in the first week of March. Are you thinking about a spring tablescape for the season? Good, because it’s spring tablescape time. If you love blue, you’ll love how to style a blue and white spring tablescape.

Do you think of March as the beginning of spring? Or is it just a transition month? Everywhere people are looking forward to spring, thinking about spring, and decorating for spring. I wanted a blue and white spring tablescape.

Are you ready to set an early spring tablescape? For this spring tablescape, I wanted a bright, crisp and fresh look. And, of course, I had an inspiration piece.

Back in January (Was that only two months ago?), I chose blue and white as one of my color schemes for the year. I designed our winter bedroom in blue and white. We still absolutely love it. To continue this love affair with blue and white, I chose to create a pretty blue and white spring tablescape.

Easter color schemes can be pastels ~ pinks, soft blues, soft greens, yellows ~ which I love so much. And you know what? I love it too.

Even if you don’t plan to host an event or seasonal party anytime soon, save this spring tablescape to Pinterest. You never know when you will want to revisit that tablescape.

I always have an inspiration piece that starts my creative hamster wheel turning. Sometimes even more than one.

Blue and White Tablespace Inspiration

A few weeks ago I shared this beautiful blue vase that I found at AtHome and used in our winter bedroom. I stuffed it full of faux peonies.

I loved it so much I went back and bought another one ~ from a different store that was 40 minutes away and waited for the right moment to use it again.

I have also used them as part of my blue and white spring entry.

They were also part of our winter bedroom last year.

Styling the Blue and White Tablescape

The site for my blue and white spring tablescape would be our breakfast room, which can be very bright on even a slightly cloudy day.

First, I needed a tablecloth. I found two pieces of remnant fabric in my blue fabric box. Which one do you think looks better? The solid denim shade or the dark shade of buffalo check?

If you chose the buffalo check, you were right. The colors went better with the vase and I loved the contrast in pattern ~ casual and elegant ~ between the check and the design of the vase.

The next step was to make the rectangle piece of fabric into a round tablecloth ~ I’ll share the how~to in a later post.

In case you were wondering, I didn’t take the time right now to hem it, but I will before I pack it away.

I have had these blue mesh placemats for years. The blue shades were working very well together.

For dinner plates, I used a white square shape with rounded corners that I bought at Dollar Tree several weeks ago. I wanted to give the plates a touch of blue so I stenciled a leaf motif at each corner. I’ll share that how~to in a future post also.

To layer on top of the square plates, I couldn’t wait to use these cute white salad plates with the raised dots. I bought 6 for $6.00. I think they are so sweet.

For silverware, I brought out these mother~of~pearl ones that belonged to my mother~in~law. I did polish them first with silver polish to brighten them up.

For glassware, these cobalt blue~stemmed martini glasses were a perfect fit. They were favors at a fundraiser for my younger daughter’s high school. Each couple received two, but another couple didn’t want theirs so they gave them to us. We use them all the time for margaritas.

The final element to the place setting was the napkins tied with a strip of the buffalo check fabric that I cut using pinking shears. A small blue faux flower left from last fall’s dining room decor added a touch of spring.

The Final Touches to the Blue and White Tablescape

Now for the centerpiece. I filled the blue chinoiserie vase with real hydrangeas from Trader Joe’s. I think they have the best ones for the price.  Nine stems gave a very full look.

I love how the blues from the different elements blend together so well.

What blue and white spring tablescape would be complete without a little sweet treat? Blueberry muffins!!

These muffins from our neighborhood Central Market are so moist and packed with sweet fruit. Sweet Shark couldn’t wait until I finished taking photos so he could have one.

I wasn’t done yet. Every cupcake and muffin needs a little garnish, don’t you think? I think this adds a cute finishing touch to the muffins. I set each one with a paper doily. (How~to coming later.)

Finally, my blue and white spring tablescape is complete. It’s a very simple tablescape to put together. What do you think?

It’s amazing how nicely a 2-color scheme can be, but you could easily add a pop of pink, green or yellow if you like. What do you think of just a blue and white spring tablescape theme?

P.S. The blueberry muffins were delicious!!

Here is my latest, brand new blue tablescape. This one is full of bunnies and is so cute.

I hope that you will share this post by PINNING it. I would greatly appreciate it.

    1. Thank you, sweet Crissy. This was definitely a fun tablescape to design. 18 months ago Central Market opened as our neighborhood grocery store less than 5 minutes away. We are very fortunate. Trader Joe’s is less than 10 minutes away. I’m probably spoiled living where we do in Dallas. Everything is so convenient except for IKEA which is 25 minutes away. Come to Dallas sometime and I’ll take you on a tour.

The vase is gorgeous and I see why you drove 40 miles to get another one. What’s not to love about Blueberry Muffins and now I want one; maybe two. It’s a pleasure to join you again on another blog hop.

  19. Carol, your crisp blue and white table was a breath of fresh air! Love the glasses and mother of pearl handle flatware in particular. And, what could be more perfect than serving blueberry muffins? Except now, I’m really craving one to eat with my afternoon cup of tea!

  20. I loved your blue and white scheme. Fresh and crisp. I love making tablecloths, especially from thrifted material. Several weeks ago, I had a craving for blueberry muffins–one of my favorites. Well, I knew if I was going to get around to making them, I better assemble the dry ingridients the night before and took blueberries out to thaw in the fridge.. So last week I finally made them–just enough batter to hold the blueberries together! With cinnamon and sugar sprinkled on top! And warm out of the oven they stuck to the cupcake papers so badly. Once cold, they were fine.

  21. Love your choice of blue and white for your table. The plaid tablecloth is a real keeper and I know you’ll find lots of uses for it. Those are great dishes and the stemware is perfect with them! Gosh I wish I had a Trader Joe’s nearby- those a beautiful hydrangeas! The icing on the cake so to say are your blueberry muffins!
