Time to Start Planning – What’s Trending in Fall Decor for 2026
Before we get to the decorating ideas, let’s talk about what’s new this year. Fall 2026 has a decidedly rich, collected feel, and I think you’re going to love where things are headed. Here are the trends I’m seeing everywhere right now:
NOTE: I couldn’t help myself, so I did a little early fall shopping. You’ll see some affiliatle links below.
- Deep, saturated colors. Burgundy, plum, chocolate, mustard, and oxblood are the stars of the season. The washed-out terracottas and bright pumpkin oranges of years past are taking a back seat to moodier, more sophisticated shades.
- Chocolate brown is having a major moment. Designers are calling brown the color of 2026, and Benjamin Moore’s Color of the Year, Silhouette, is a rich charcoal-infused espresso. Even a few brown velvet pillows (love this soft, rich brown that isn’t too dark) will make your space feel current.
- Burgundy is the go-to accent. This wine-inspired shade is the signature color of the quiet luxury trend. It’s dramatic without being overpowering. Here are burgundy velvet throw pillows to consider.
- Warm, creamy neutrals. Grays and stark whites are stepping aside for cream, caramel, and soft taupe. Start with a warm neutral base, then layer in your accent colors through textiles and accessories. This creamy neutral throw – the color is called linen – is perfect for this fall season.
- Vintage charm and nostalgia. Collected, timeless pieces are in, from vintage patterns to heirloom-style accessories. If you love antiques and vintage style, you’re already ahead of this trend.
- Handcrafted, artisanal details. Hand-painted finishes, scalloped trims, and pieces that showcase dressmaker details are everywhere. This is wonderful news for us DIYers, because handmade has never been more stylish.
- Layered texture. Think velvet mixed with nubby boucle, embroidered linen, and chunky knits. Texture is what makes a room feel cozy instead of just decorated.
- Pattern mixing with personality. Geometric patterns paired with vintage florals or scallops create a look that feels curated, not matchy-matchy. Minimalism is officially on its way out.
- Warm, moody lighting. As the evenings get shorter, swapping to warmer bulbs and adding lamps and candlelight may be the single most impactful change you can make.
- Grounded, nature-connected spaces. Rooms that feel inviting and personal are in. Bring in natural elements like dried branches, wood tones, and organic shapes.
- Mixing Wood Tones. Forget matching all your finishes perfectly. The current trend embraces harmonizing a variety of wood grains in one space—such as white oak flooring, walnut cabinetry, and ash furniture – to add depth without clutter. Use this trend in your decorative accessory vignettes.
- Go to the Dark Side. Moody artwork can add that moody fall feel with nostalgic cabins, dark forests, harvest pumpkins, and antique sketch-style botanicals – all in warm, muted earth tones. Add a touch of handmade with one of these digital fall prints.
The best part? Every one of these trends can be layered into the home you already have, no overhaul required. Now let’s look at creative ways to bring fall into your home.
