Simple Patriotic Patio Styling Ideas: Get Ready for the 4th
The Fourth of July is around the corner. Whether you are decorating for Memorial Day, 4th of July, or Labor Day, the colors and the decor are the same. Here are some must-have simple patriotic patio styling ideas.
Our patriotic holidays focus on different things – remembrance, celebrations, recognition. But they all have things in common – red, white, and blue, flags, and stars and stripes.
As we near the biggest celebration of the year – and the happiest, I’m sharing how you can get your outdoor spaces, especially your patio and backyard ready for the big day of sharing our nation’s birthday.
Fourth of July Patriotic Pinterest Challenge
It’s not too late to decorate your patio or front porch for America’s birthday or an outdoor party.
And you are in luck. It’s Pinterest Challenge day, and my friend Cindy of County Road 407 has chosen a delightful patriotic look for our inspiration.
This patriotic porch decor was designed by another friend, Suzy of Worthing Court. She created a 4th of July scene perfect for front porch sitting.
If you are joining me from Laura of Decor to Adore, then you’ll get a kick out of her decorating dilemma.
A patriotic front porch is a great place to show your support of Uncle Sam. I don’t have one, so I decorate our patio and backyard. It’s my favorite place to add a patriotic vibe for our favorite July holiday.

Our July 4th Inspiration
Let’s take a look at what fun ideas Suzy has used in her pretty patriotic theme.
- a blue painted chest of drawers
- 2 wicker chairs
- patriotic throw pillows
- a patriotic banner
- two lanterns in black and white
- small American flags
- red geraniums
- wood American flag
I was excited to use Suzy’s patriotic decorations as the inspiration for my patriotic patio styling ideas. I had almost everything I needed for a outdoor patio celebration.
Simple Patriotic Patio Decor
Our outdoor space is one of our favorite things about our home. Since we updated the backyard in 2021, it’s now an oasis or blue water, green grass, pretty flower pots, and woodsy greenery. It’s magical at night with all the string lights and fairy lights.
We now have a covered seating area plus room for a small dining table, an umbrella, plus lots of flowers.
Painted Bar Cart
Suzy’s main focal point was a lovely chest of drawers that was the bottom of a hutch. I did have a chest to put outside, but I did have something else that would work well.
I have a black bar cart from Wayfair that I wanted to update. It’s very practical since it folds up for storage. We’ve used it many times for parties.
I took it to our driveway on a cloudy day and placed it on a drop cloth.
I thought a can of spray paint in a glossy navy would spiff it up and compliment our navy and white patio cushions.I bought two cans, just in case.
First I wrapped the wheels in Frog Tape.
Then I gave it two coats of Rust-Oleum Gloss Navy Spray Paint.
What a nice update!
Styling the Bar Cart
My vision for the bar cart was to hold wine, beer and glasses – just like we were having a party.
You may notice some glare in these photos. It was 7:40 in the morning and the sunlight was already so bright it was difficult to get a clear image.
I set our large red beverage tub on the newly-painted bar cart and filled it with ice. A trio of Rose, Gruner Vetliner and Chardonnay and my favorite beer, Yuengling, would be offered to guests.
Cute star straws add to the bar cart.
I love these blue-stemmed margarita glasses. They were favors at a school fundraiser years ago. The rectangle white and blue melamine dish is from Wayfair.
On the bottom shelf, I placed a star-studded plastic pitcher and plastic wine glasses.
On the handles I draped white dish towels with blue stripes from All Cotton and Linen (the blue is out of stock). These dish towels are very similar. I love the feel and pattern of these lightweight dishtowels. You could also use them as napkins.
Patio Seating and Pillows
On our patio, we have room to sit six. We brought all the furniture from our previous home. We have a love seat that sits two and two pairs of chairs with custom cushions.
On the love seat I have two pretty white pillow covers with a blue abstract pattern.
Taking Suzy’s project to heart, I wrapped two outdoor navy blue pillows with red ribbon with stars that I had in my patriotic decor stash.
I filled a blue vase with “sparkles” in patriotic colors to add to the festivity.
On the other outdoor two side tables, I placed two paper mache flower pots that I decoupaged a few years ago.
Instead of red geraniums, I filled them with faux red roses and small American flags.
The Patio Coffee Table
On the coffee table, I used a combination of red and blue accents.
This metal lantern/cloche stays on the patio. I fill it with real and battery operated white candles. It was a special find in Grandberry, Texas, on an anniversary trip.
On top of the lantern I draped strands of red, white, and blue “necklaces”.
A blue tray with gold handles holds both an apothecary jar filled with red, white and blue “gumballs” and three red and blue bowls of snacks. These patriotic touches provide a focal point on the table.
Our blue stripe rug grounds the seating area.
Back Yard Table
On our backyard dining table, I added a red plaid tablecloth for color. A recently painted blue ceramic vase is filled with fresh white and blue flowers.
As a backdrop, the easy DIY wood American flag that I made a few years ago – for another Pinterest Challenge – acts as a backdrop of color and draws the eye to the backyard.
I placed a few more American flags in some planters and hay racks – they are always the best decoration for the patriotic holidays.
Happy 4th of July Banner
The last thing that I added to our Pinterest Challenge Independence Day decor is a banner.
Sweet Shark helped me hang this “4th of July” banner across our patio cover. I have had this banner for years and it’s been used in several places.
I like the “filler” it provides in the space and it stands out so well.
I think I used most of the decorations that Suzy used on her front porch. And, I didn’t spend a penny! One of the best parts of reusing patriotic decorations.
The patio and backyard still look great at night – when it’s a little cooler.
