3 Ways to Style a Dollar Tree Christmas Tree

Is it too early to think about Christmas trees? Let’s think about 3 ways to style a Dollar Tree Christmas tree.

With COVID still in our midst, let’s think ahead to festive and happy things  like Christmas trees

O Tannenbaum, O Christmas Tree, what would Christmas be without a Christmas tree? They come in all sizes, shapes, and colors. Some fresh and some faux.

How about a tiny tree that is so inexpensive you could buy one for everyone in the neighborhood? Let’s just have fun with 3 ways to style a Dollar Tree Christmas tree.

As we all know, some trees are big and super expensive. Some are small and less expensive. You can’t beat a 1 foot Christmas tree that costs $1.00.

Now, this Christmas tree may not be the prettiest tree ever made, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t make it look fabulous. A little tree can be used in smaller spaces to spruce up a Christmas vignette.

For our December DIY Challenge last year, I decorated a Dollar Tree Christmas tree. I decided to try 3 ways to style this small scrawny tree. You can decide which one you like best.

This post contains links to products that I love and recommend ~ a bunch. If you should order anything from this site, I may receive compensation, but you don’t pay a penny more.

At first, I did not see this tree at Dollar Tree, although I’m usually there once a week. Between September and December, I may be there more times than I can count. I bought 1: I wish I had stocked up on them. This year, I will shop earlier ~ with my mask on, of course

I had 3 places that I thought a small tree would be a nice addition. I couldn’t decide which place would be best, so I tried 3 ways to style the tree.

I won’t tell you which one was the winner until the end of the post. No peeking!

The Dollar Tree Christmas Tree Challenge

This is what this Dollar Tree Christmas tree looks like. Poor thing; it is scrawny. It’s kinda bare. If it were a live one on a Christmas tree lot, it would probably get passed over.

My idea was to use a galvanized pail (1 of 4 that I’ve had for a few years) as the container for my tree.

I also already had on hand 3 round pieces of styrofoam that fit perfectly inside my pail. These would hold my Dollar Tree Christmas tree.

I couldn’t believe that they fit perfectly inside my pail.

Next, I removed the plastic stand from the tree and stuck it in the styrofoam. Perfect fit.

Dollar Tree Christmas Tree Style in the Kitchen

First, the tree needs lights and filler. We have dozens of battery~operated Christmas lights. I needed 2 strands of colored lights for my tree.

For filler, I found these little stems of faux greenery and shiny “thistles” tied with Christmas twine. I think I used them last year on my tablescape.

First the lights went on.

Then I stuck the faux stems randomly in the tree, anywhere they would stay and fill in.

I have so much ribbon, so the galvanized pail got a red bow.

Big Reveal: I wanted the tree on my white and gold~trimmed cake stand on my kitchen island to dress up the space. I keep hand soap and lotion on a cake stand at all times.

For the holidays, I have the Tannenbaum scent from Michel Design Works, but all their scents are wonderful. I added a candle from this collection. I love all their fresh scents.

For a topper on the tree, I used 2 jewel~like ribbon holders that came on Christmas packages years ago.

The final addition were some red jingle bells.

One of our Christmas characters finished the pretty setting.

What do you think? Doesn’t the Dollar Tree look so much better?

Dollar Tree Christmas Tree in Master Bathroom

We have a side table in our master bath that was the very first thing I bought for our home when we in the middle of the remodel.

I found this oval table with a marble top at an antique mall for $25. I didn’t do a thing to it. I knew it was the perfect size, shape, and finish to go next to our master bathtub.

I placed a piece of white felt on top of the marble for this Christmas tree setting.

For this version of the Dollar Tree Christmas tree, I removed all the decorations and left the lights.

I took apart the faux greenery (removed the red twine and the gold thistles). Next, I put the faux greenery back in as filler. In our boxes and boxes of Christmas decorations, I found these silver sparkle balls (Last year they were on the tree in our master bedroom.). All I had to do was just stick them into the branches of the tree.

I had a bolt of silver ribbon that had never been used. Our master bathroom is white and pale blue with chrome hardware and light fixtures. This ribbon would be the perfect choice for this space.

I cut off a piece to wrap around the galvanized pail and taped it on.

Then I found this one silver snowflake to use as a tree topper. I just poked the top of the tree branch through the snowflake.

I set the Christmas tree on the table and added a few little characters. The 2 white and silver penguins are actually placecard holders. I found a bag of white and red little balls and picked out a bunch of white ones. Penguins and deer playing with snowballs?

The lights on the tree look so pretty at night.

Dollar Christmas Tree in the Living Room

I hated to take apart the bathroom Christmas tree (Why didn’t I buy 3 trees at Dollar Tree?), but the holidays and the DIY Challenge left me no choice.

Since this next style would go in our living room, I went back to red, picking 2~inch balls out of the bag. Again, I just stuck them randomly in the tree branches.

A leftover piece of ribbon from last year fits perfectly around the galvanized pail.

And here is the last of 3 ways to style a Dollar Tree Christmas tree.

First I placed a large piece of white felt on the coffee table. Then the red truck and the moose from the hot chocolate bar found their way to our living room coffee table. The tree found its spot in the bed of the truck.

Notice the red and gold poinsettia leaf on the top of the tree? It’s another ornament from a Christmas present.

I changed the “reins” from green to this red and white striped cord with red pom~poms at each end.

moose and Santa

I placed one of our Christmas characters inside the cab of the truck. Another one sits on the back of the truck.

The moose now has a rider and jingle bells on his antlers. Red balls are scattered across the “snow”.

Giddy~up!!

Which one of these 3 ways to style a Dollar Tree Christmas tree do you like best? Which one do you think stayed in place?

Yep, the coffee table vignette. I had always thought that the red truck would be on the coffee table this year. The Dollar Tree Christmas tree in the back of the truck was the perfect combo.

I hope these 3 ways to style a Dollar Tree Christmas tree give you some ideas to use one yourself. Except for the $1.00 to buy the tree, I didn’t spend a penny. That’s an even better deal.

If you already have a 12-inch tree on hand, you are in great shape.

Be sure to PIN for later.

After I finished styling these Dollar Tree Christmas trees, I found 2 small trees from last year and restyled them for the master bathroom and the kitchen counter. I still was able to have 3 ways to style a Christmas tree, after all.

My advice: if you see one of these Dollar Tree Christmas trees, grab it now. They will be gone by Labor Day.

  1. So cute. Love the truck display. Not sure if I should let the cat out of the bag because last year that tree sold so fast, I didn’t get as many as I needed. It comes in white too. I like to bend the top over so it doesn’t keep leaning over.

    1. Alison, a little tree can go anywhere and add just the right little touch of Christmas in a small space. Thanks for dropping by and commenting.

  2. Well I love them all! But I think my favorite is the one in the bathroom — so elegant looking! I actually bought one of these for one of my daughter’s college dorm rooms! I bought a few bags of those extra greenery stems and inserted them throughout the tree to fluff it up. A few ornaments and a few lights and we were good to go. Just FYI I will be featuring you tomorrow on Vintage Charm, thanks for joining in! Have a happy and blessed Christmas season! xo Kathleen
