How to Make an All-White Spring Flower Arrangement for Your Entry

Spring has a way of making us crave something fresh and serene, and nothing delivers that feeling quite like an all-white flower arrangement. Today I’m sharing an all-white spring flower arrangement I created as a centerpiece for our entry. I think you’re going to love how simple it is to put together — even if you are on a budget.

I do love using lots of bright colors for my home in the spring. However, there is something traditional and classic about using white flowers in arrangements. Whether you’re decorating your entryway, styling a buffet, or creating a focal point above a mantel, white blooms have a timeless elegance that works beautifully in almost any space.

As pretty as I think this spring flower arrangement turned out, what makes it special is that I mixed faux and fresh white flowers. I don’t think you can tell what’s real and what’s fresh.

As you will see, I also incorporated my favorite blue into the display.

You’ll have to decide what you think as I show you how easy it is to arrange this display.

Our Spring All-White Flower Arrangement Inspiration

If you follow the calendar, you may realize that we are getting closer to spring and that it is time for our monthly Design Challenge. Yes, Design, not Pinterest, Challenge. Our hostess, Cindy of County Road, decided to expand our inspiration photos to include Instagram as well.

This month’s inspiration photo is from Liz Marie Blog. Known for her rustic decor featuring white and wood, Liz Marie created this display of white flowers, white accessories, and several natural wood elements.

Are you joining me from Barb of French Ethereal? Her Japanese-style arrangement is so creative.

The display appears to be set on a natural wood chest behind a white sofa. Lix Marie uses various white elements, including a white woven basket, a large white urn, and a tall white lamp. A variety of smaller accessories – a carved wood “trivet” topped with a cloche, three stone containers filled with white flowers and greenery – give your eye plenty of shape and texture to focus on.

A large painting in the background of a white swan and a hanging dish rack (white, of course) adds a fun, whimsical element to the scene.

We don’t know if the flowers and greenery are fresh or faux.

There is enough variation in the shades of white, from bright white to ercu, cream, taupe, and grey to provide interest and depth.

Now the fun really begins; let’s see how we all interpret the setting to meetin our own style, color, and homes. And, of course, what we have on hand: this exercise in home decor styling is perfect for using what you already have.

Flower Arrangements Start with Your Container

The heart of any arrangement is its container. For this arrangement and with a little nod to Liz Marie’s aesthetic, I used my dough bowl. I forgot to take a picture of mine – I’ve it for so long that I don’t remember where I bought it, but this rustic wood dough bowl is very similar.

If you’ve never used a dough bowl as a floral centerpiece, you are in for a treat.

Are Your Spring Flowers Fresh or Faux?

I love hydrangeas; who doesn’t? Since the beginning of the year, I’ve been buying three bunches of white hydrangeas about every other week at Trader Joe’s. Do you notice that one out of every three hydrangeas doesn’t last? I just remove the spent bloom and replace the water until there are no more blooms. It’s like ten monkeys jumping on the bed!

Last week, in anticipation of this Design Challenge, I bought faux white hydrangeas to fill the dough bowl. I wanted ones that were very realistic in look and feel. I hit the jackpot with this choice.

This set of three white hydrangeas is so real-looking. They even have a softness to them that most faux flowers don’t have. I was worried about clipping the stems off for this arrangement, but the way the blooms are packaged made it very easy to use them as I intended.

The stems, leaves, and blooms are packaged individually. So no clipping required.

When I want to use the flowers in a tall vase, I’ll just assemble the blooms, stems, and leaves – which also look and feel real.

Also, these blooms are much larger than the ones at Trader Joe’s, which are also often smushed.

I did shake and fluff them.

Before placing the blooms in the dough bowl, I crunched up paper to give them a base.

To finish the look, I stuffed my favorite Super Moss all around the hydrangeas. This stuff lasts forever (I think I’ve had my box for four or five years) and is always fresh.

The natural texture of the wood plays beautifully against the delicate, full blooms, and the moss grounds everything with a touch of the outdoors. It’s the kind of layered, organic look that feels collected and intentional without being overdone.

Creating My All-White Floral Arrangement

With the first part of my all-white floral arrangement complete, I can begin adding other white flowers and elements to the display.

Liz Marie’s style is rustic, and mine is traditional, transitional, and more classic. The dough bowl is the extent of my “rustic-ness” for this entry arrangement.

I was also so excited to bring in some of my chinioiserie (which has been packed since Thanksgiving). I brought in several pieces, but ended up using just four.

I started by flanking the dough bowl with two large round chinoiserie vases, a white pitcher with white faux cherry blossoms, and a smaller ginger jar with an attached lid.

NOTE: I bought these white baby’s breath last week. I didn’t pay as much attention to the description, so these faux flowers aren’t as well-made as the hydrangeas. If you want really good ones, read the descriptions carefully.

I didn’t have any more white flowers on hand to put in the round chinoiserie vases. I needed something tall to add height to the vignette and balance the shorter elements. A trip to Trader Joe’s was in order.

The best choice was two beautiful white orchids.

Orchids are perfect flowers for when you need height and a striking flower for a touch of drama.

The mix of real and faux florals is something I love to do – the orchids bring life and that gorgeous natural drape, while the cherry blossoms give you the height and movement you need without the worry of wilting. Tucked in on either side are two small ginger jars with lids, which add that beautiful blue-and-white contrast that pairs so perfectly with chinoiserie styling.

I wanted a balanced arrangement, and the two sides of the dough bowl are almost mirror images. The white pitchers are different – the one on the left is a flea market buy, and the one on the right with the fleur-de-lis was a centerpiece at a charity luncheon.

The cobalt-blue votives were a last-minute idea. They were sitting on the counter in our butler’s pantry, and so I grabbed them.

The two small blue votives will bring in a little ambient glow at night.

At night, the glow from the lights will be a lovely sight.

I thought something was missing in the center of the vignette between the orchids. Imagine Liz Marie’s setting without the large white swan painting in the background. I didn’t have a white swan to add, but I had a white lamp.

Behind the dough bowl, I styled a round lamp base on a stack of books draped in a soft blue scarf – a simple riser trick that adds height and dimension to the whole arrangement. The lamp shade keeps everything feeling airy and bright, which is exactly the mood I wanted for a springtime entryway arrangement. The result is layered, cohesive, and the kind of vignette that stops you in your tracks the moment you walk through the door.

The white lamp (a long-ago purchase from IKEA) fills the space, adds another pop of white, and creates a strong focal point in the center of the vignette.

The look is lush and very spring garden-like to me. It fits the traditional, more formal style of our home.

It was time to return my chinoiserie prints to their place of honor in the entry hall. Last year, I had a set of six in six gold frames that I had repainted. I used four of them in new, larger gold frames from Target. I really prefer fewer, but larger frames with mats.

The best part? This whole look is incredibly versatile. While I styled it for our entry table, this arrangement would be just as stunning on a dining room table, a sideboard or buffet, or stretched across a fireplace mantel.

White spring flower arrangements have that rare quality of feeling both dressed up and relaxed at the same time, making them the perfect choice for spring decorating, no matter which room you’re working with.

I haven’t yet plugged in the white lamp (moving the chest out from the wall takes two of us!), but I did light the votives when the sun started to set. They definitely provide the glow I wanted.

That is my lesson on how to style a spring entry flower arrangement with white flowers and a punch of gorgeous blue and white chinoiserie. It’s my favorite color combination.
