Most people start in late August or early September, but it’s never too late. An easy approach is to ease in with neutral touches like wood, woven baskets, and white pumpkins, then add deeper colors and more pumpkins in October. The kitchen is a smart first room to decorate because a few small changes make a big difference.

I can shop my home and the yard for the vases, baskets, leafy branches, fruits, etc. Every fall I make some grapevine wreathes with the fruitless wild grape vines that threaten to overcome the yard. I get the exercise of doing necessary yardwork, fresh air, and sunshine and end up with great wreathes for craft projects, small Christmas ornaments, etc. WIN-WIN!
