I’m always looking for new creative ideas for DIY projects. Lately, I’ve noticed an increase in DIY pressed flower projects. I bought a couple of packages, and now I’m looking for ideas to use these delicate and beautiful flowers.
Whether you’re looking to create some unique home decor, make personalized gifts for friends and family, or just want to try something new, there are plenty of pressed flower projects to choose from.
During a search on Pinterest, I discovered that pressed flowers can be used to make so many different craft projects. Even better, they all look so easy and fun to make. These craft projects can be both pretty and practical.
Have you ever made a DIY pressed flower project? Great! I bet there are some new projects using pressed flowers that you will discover in my list.
Pressed flower projects only require a few supplies. Like decoupage projects, although the resulting projects may look very different, the processes are similar.
After discovering these 15 pressed flower craft ideas, my only problem is deciding which one to make.
Supplies for Making Pressed Flower Crafts
When it comes to creating beautiful pressed flower projects, having the right materials is essential. Fortunately, those materials are simple and easy to find.
Flowers
The most essential element of any pressed flower project is, of course, the flowers themselves. You can use either fresh flowers or dried pressed flowers.
If you are using fresh flowers, some varieties work better than others. Flowers with thin petals, such as pansies, daisies, and violets, work well. It’s also important to choose flowers that are in good condition and free from blemishes or damage.
If you don’t have easy access to suitable fresh flowers or don’t want to take the time to press them for a week or two, then dried pressed flowers may be a better option for you.
I ordered two varieties of dried pressed flowers – this set of 100 flower pieces and this package of 75 pieces. Different packages come in different color options.
Pressing Supplies
Fresh flowers must be pressed prior to use in a DIY project. To press your flowers, you’ll need a few basic supplies. A flower press is the most common option, but you can also use heavy books or even a microwave.
Adhesive
Once your flowers are pressed and dried, you’ll need something to attach them to your project. There are a variety of adhesives that work well for pressed flowers, including clear glue, such as Mod Podge, double-sided tape, and even a glue gun. Just be sure to use a small amount of adhesive, as too much can make your project look messy.
As you will see, there are projects that don’t use adhesive, like resin or melted wax.
Project Materials
The materials you’ll need for your project will depend on what you’re creating. For a simple framed piece, you’ll need a frame, possibly a mat, and backing board. If you’re making a card or other paper craft, you’ll need cardstock, scissors, and other paper crafting supplies.
By having these materials on hand, you’ll be ready to create beautiful pressed flower projects in no time. Happy crafting!
