I can’t say hello and Welcome to Happiness is Homemade Link Party 294 without giving a thank you for everyone who texted or emailed me about the horrific tornado that devastated parts of my North Dallas area last Sunday night. As we were watching the Cowboy game, our phones went off, warning of an impending tornado and to take cover. As we watched the path of the tornado on TV, we said some prayers.
We are not touched, but about a 1 1/2 miles north, the tornado cut a 1 mile path across 16 miles from west to east, in a diagonal line. Monday morning, we awoke to news of the damage. Thousands of homes were destroyed, thousands of trees, power lines, street signs, roofs disappeared. The closest elementary school to us is totally destroyed. The shopping centered where I have visited and shopped since I was a little girl has been partially destroyed including our vet, where Sweet Shark and I had been not 6 hours earlier with Layla. The fire station I’ve passed a million times is gone.
Almost a week later, many major roads throughout the area have been closed, although slowly opening, causing major traffic congestion. No “running” to the store in 15 minutes. It could be an hour or more. Friends who live closer to the damage have let me know that many of the homes my childhood friends and I grew up in are most likely gone.
It will be months, if not a year before retail and residential areas are restored. But there are silver linings and blessings. Not a single person was killed; the few injuries were minor. The community, including my church, have been collecting items for victims and schools affected. We will get through this. God is good.
Thank you for letting me share this. Now let’s go to something more fun: our last link party of October! And this is Linda’s last Sunday as hostess. She as a great party for you.

Happiness is Homemade Link Party 294 Features of the Week
Happiness is Homemade is a special Halloween edition this week. I mean hello: is there anything better than planning a few ghoulish surprises? The link ups last week have not made the selection easy. Honestly so much spooky goodness to choose from.
Let’s start off with a few Last Minute decor ideas from Hippie at Home. Easy and super thrifty last minute Halloween decorations can be ready in a flash, but will look like they took all day to create. Such a cute display if you are looking for some last minute ideas.
Could we have a linkup without an awesome tablescape featured? I adore this Happy Halloween Vintage inspired table from Follow the Yellow Brick Home. She stated how much she enjoyed creating this vintage inspired “Happy Halloween” tablescape instead of a dark and scary one by using just a few Halloween decorations, some fall treats, and vintage treasures that work well for a Halloween-themed table.
Near and dear to my heart is an awesome cocktail celebrating the All Hallow’s Eve celebrations. With its deep dark red color from black cherry juice and grenadine, this Dracula’s Blood Cocktail is simply perfect for Halloween sipping. Drop in some plastic vampire teeth to add to the Halloween cocktail fun!
Happy Halloween Cupcakes, Claire Justine has created the cutest Halloween treat. She didn’t stop with the ghosts pictures here; she also created 9 fun cupcakes that the children can help you with.
I had to add a special treat in for this week. How cute is this Spooky Loofah Puppy Costume from Love my Little Cottage. One of the cutest internet dog costumes (in my opinion) is the dog loofa. I bought orange loofas and added a skeleton to make Hercules’ costume a Spooky Loofa Dog Halloween Costume.
