How I Used My Flea Market Finds

Hi Flea Market Friends.

I can’t believe how many of you love shopping at flea markets. Well, actually, I can.

We all love the thrill of the hunt.

The excitement of finding just the perfect thing we have been searching for.

The exhilaration of finding something special we weren’t even looking for.

The memories that an old piece brings to mind ~ grandma’s fiesta pottery, granddad’s old toolbox, mom’s favorite apron.

Last week I shared with you my adventure at Flea Style ~ A Dallas Flea Market ~ and the wonderful pieces I found.

Today I want to show you how I used them ~ in both a purely decorative way and in a practical way that sometimes overlap. Form and function!

White Vases

First, remember my cool beameister vases? and the tall white vase?

I seem to be always changing the shelves of the bookcase in our living room I painted here. And here is how I have decorated it ~ several times.

On the top shelf was a print that I wasn’t happy with ~ it looked too kitchen~y. So I removed it from the top shelf and it’s now in the kitchen where it belongs. A white crock also went to the kitchen.

I moved the planter with the moss balls that I made from the dining room to the top shelf. Then I added the three vases. Much better. I like the sculptural effect and how the white vases pop against the blue walls.

Aqua Colander

Next was my aqua colander ~ one of the things I wasn’t looking for, but was one of my favorite finds.

Perfect for holding our Meyer lemons. I love the yellow against the aqua ~ a match made at flea market heaven.

Wire Baskets

And those little baskets? I love wire baskets. I know you do, too. These had to be useful. I separated my potatoes, shallots, and garlic into the baskets. Awesome.

White Tureen and White Bowl

The large white tureen and the small white bowl went into one of my glass~fronted cabinets with some other white pieces and my vintage French coffee pot.

Then I bought some yellow roses and daffodils at the grocery store and thought they would be lovely in the tureen. Did you know that you can buy florist foam at the floral section of the grocery store? I had never asked before, but they do. $3.00 for a block.

I cut the foam to fit the tureen and filled it with water to soak for a few hours.

Then I arranged the yellow flowers in the foam and added some baby’s breath to fill in. When the buds will open in a day or two, it will be even prettier. A few pieces of ivy from the backyard add contrast against the white tureen.

It’s a great day when everything you buy finds a place and a purpose. It’s a beautiful day, inside and out.

What do you think? Any other ideas for my flea market finds? Please share.

  1. Way to go Carol. Your kitchen is refreshed with beautiful flea market finds. The roses are gorgeous and I’m glad to know the foam tip. 🙂
