Memorial Day is coming up soon. Since you may need ideas for Memorial Day decorations, I wanted to share with you some awesome decorations that I found on Instagram.
The kick~off to summer is coming up. Memorial Day is really a weekend celebration that signals that summer is here. A double reason for Memorial Day decorations to get us in the mood for warm weather and lazy days.
Although we use the long weekend to enjoy cook~outs, picnics, or trips to the lake, we do need to remember that this holiday is not a celebration like 4th of July.
It’s a day of remembrance. If you, like me, have parents, relatives, or friends who served our country, this is a time to acknowledge and honor their service and sacrifice. Putting out our flags and decorating with red, white and blue and stars and stripes is one way to say we care about what they did for our country and our freedoms.
Thankfully, this year we can be back celebrating with parades, family barbeques, or picnics in the park. We can really celebrate our country’s heroes by giving our homes a dose of Memorial Day decorations.
Sweet Shark and I brought down our patriotic decorations and I hung our red, white, and blue wreath on the front door. Since all our summer patriotic holidays center on the same color and designs, I wanted some new ideas.
I decided to search Instagram for inspiration. In addition to finding some great Memorial Day decorations, I also discovered some new Instagram accounts that I started following. Maybe you will want to do that too.
10 Memorial Day Decorations Inspired by Instagram
These decorations that I found on Instagram are in no particular order. I did have some criteria:
- No shops, nothing for sale
- I wanted decorations that were personally created and used by the person who posted it.
- I looked for decorations that you could create this week with minimal expense and time.
- I wanted decorations that I would make and display.
- Decorations that I had on hand and didn’t require shopping.
I was really excited by what I found, so, of course, I have to share these Memorial Day decorations with you.
SUITCASE, BENCH AND BOOKS FOR MEMORIAL DAY DECORATIONS
This collection of pillows, books, a wood flag sign, and a real flag nestled in an old trunk immediately piqued my interest since I have a vintage wood toolbox that would be perfect for this idea. Thanks to Jessica of Orchard Slope for the inspiration.
MEMORIAL DAY DECOR ON THE MANTEL
We love to decorate our mantels for the holidays. You can put together this easy Memorial Day decoration using flags and blue vases from Laura at This Modern Vintage in a jiffy. I also love the shiplap in the background and the chippy mantel.
SIMPLE MEMORIAL DAY WREATH
Wreaths are another standby for holiday decorations. Believe me, there are thousands on Instagram, but I wanted something simple for you that didn’t require professional skills. This one from Lia Griffith looked like one that you could make in an hour. I know Lia from her Cricut tutorials; she is a pro, who shares design projects that anyone can make.
RED CHECKS AND BICYCLE DECOR
I don’t know if Michelle at Family Shiplap and Dunn planned for this scene for Memorial Day. Who doesn’t love a red bicycle, a red checked napkin, and red, white and blue beads?
If you have a bicycle or a wagon, this would be a great decoration for a front porch or patio. Add a flag and you are ready to go. I do have a vintage red truck that I have been dying to use so this is my inspiration.
MEMORIAL DAY DECOR FOR THE COFFEE TABLE
We all love to style vignettes for our coffee tables. Sarah of Mockingbird Market created a simple setting with a woven basket, mason jars, and flags. Since I have several blue mason jars, I loved this idea. What an easy and fast combination, but one that makes a great impact. Love the big old~looking flag hung on the wall in the background.
PATRIOTIC DECOR IN THE ENTRY
Entries need a dose of red, white, and blue. If you have friends and family coming over, you want to let them know immediately that your home is in a holiday mood. The mother~daughter duo at It’s More Than a Home put together a vignette combining red geraniums, red candies and a flag. Aren’t the red, white and blue straws really cute?
USE A MEMORIAL DAY SIGN
Another vignette from Brantley at The Sassy Oak could be used on the coffee table, entry or kitchen counter. This setting uses a flag, beads and red and blue star dishes. I love how easy it is to put these elements together for a pretty scene. Isn’t that little sign precious?
MEMORIAL DAY BENCH DECOR
This seating area provides a delightful place to relax on Memorial Day weekend. Stacy of Wilshire Collections mixed the cute pillows on the bench with a wooden flag hung by thick twine Aren’t the darling stars with stripes fun?
STYLE A TABLESETTING FOR MEMORIAL DAY
I love a gorgeous tablescape for all holidays. Bloom Designs and Styling created this beautiful red, white and blue centerpiece as a stunning focal point for this festive patriotic table outside.
MEMORIAL DAY MANTEL MAGIC
Finally, a little more mantle magic from Allison at Queen of the Farmhouse. I love banners and this one is perfect for Memorial Day and throughout the summer. The U~S~A letters and flag shadow box add to the ambiance of this farmhouse~inspired mantel.
